I forgot until now to finish the overview! I actually could go on, but don't have the time at the moment, following I set up the remote network access I will finish the evaluation. The Defender nonetheless records when you are in playback mode! The Swann stops recording in playback mode :( Then the florescent bulb in the hall would go out and be replaced, I would have to set it up all over once more.) (Literally, not set perfect - the motion would go off every 10 seconds - in a hall with no windows. The Defenders Motion detector goes off ONLY WHEN THERE IS MOTION! On the Swann I had to regularly tweak the brightness and contrast to hold the motion detector from going off just about every 10 seconds often.
On the Swann, often you would only see a person just soon after they had been leaving the frame, you would see a shoulder, but no way to determine the person, even even though they had walked down the hall 15 feet straight towards the camera! When you playback quite often there will be no motion for a second (and you may well think the motion detector was set off by mistake), then someone will suddenly enter the frame - so as I said, it must have some kind of pre-roll function built in. The motion detector in fact Works on the Defender. On the Defender, you can set them every single individually. On the Swann, you have not choice - how you set 1 is how they are all set. For Every camera you can set it to record all the time, motion, or not at all. The record selections are Substantially Much improved. You can check only 1 camera at a time, as an alternative of having to overview every single single camera. The search is A lot superior on the Defender. seriously the the Swann was a piece of garbage. And even then you might be quickly forwarding a 2x speed, hit pause and have the speed go to 3x, hit stop and the speed would go up to 4x. On the Swann you had to hold the remote about a foot away from the DVR. You have cursor on the screen icons, which is really, amazing. This DVR comes with a mouse! So using the technique is significantly like utilizing a personal computer. Even on the the Swann's highest setting the playback looked like garbage. The live feed and the playback look the same basically, you can not even tell it really is a recording. This is for the reason that the compression technique utilized must me A lot Much better. The playback sharpness is A lot SHARPER on this DVR. Which seemed strange because it has the same cameras. I was really shocked to to see the picture was sharper than the Swann on my monitor. But in just about every other way this DVR is superior than the Swann.

I have not set up the online access but, so I'll update my review when I do that. I have had this DVR about a month now and I'm blown away by how considerably improved it is. And I'm so happy it did (read my overview on the Swann DVR) The Swann DVR I had just died soon after nearly 2 years. I will write a longer evaluation when I have time.
